1. How do I place an order?

a. New orders can be produced from an artwork or by replicating an existing patch. Each order should have clear artwork with complete information of quantity, size, colors, backing, and border finish.
For color reference, click here to view our colors selections. Or send us your existing samples for color matching.
b. Repeat orders may be placed via e-mail, fax, or phone. We keep a physical sample and a digitized file of each order you had placed with us in the past, as well as your complete up-to-date order history in our system. We can locate your previous orders when you provide us with your stock/item number, previous PO number, or Peiyork’s sales order number. These numbers can be found on your past invoices or sales order confirmation.
c. When design consultations are approved and agreed upon, the order will be entered into our system, processed, and the Sales Order confirmation / Performa Invoice will be emailed to you. For rush orders, we will contact you as soon as we receive your orders to go through the details and confirm the price and ship date.

2. Which graphic file formats do you accept?

We prefer vector file formats: cdr, ai, eps, but we can also accept: jpg, pdf, gif, bmp, tiff, png, or psd.

*For any type of Dye-Sublimated Patches, we require artworks in a vector file format or any regular image file format of at least 300dpi.

3. If I have a new design for a patch order and I could get you either:

a) an artwork
b) a digitized file (.dst or .emb)
c) a sample patch
Which one of these is the most important to make new samples?

They are equally important because they serve different purposes:
- An artwork shows the customer's originally idea, and we can also make adjustments on the patch based on the artwork.
- A digitized file can be used as a reference of the stitching pattern.
- A sample patch allow us to fully duplicate the patch design, the best option is color matching is crucial.

4. Can you work from my digitized file for my patch order?

Yes, we can. Please send it in dst format along with your artwork. However, we need to make adjustments to better fit our machine setup and the materials we use.

5. What is your normal turnaround time?

Normally, our average turnaround time is 3~4 weeks, but high order quantity and/or a unique product may require more production time. Feel free to send the design to us for an estimate. Rush service is available upon request.

6. How are patch sizes determined?

Embroidered patch sizes are determined by adding the width and the height then divide that by 2. For example, an embroidered patch that measures 5" wide by 3" high (12.7cm by 7.62cm) will have an overall patch size of 4" (10.16cm).

7. What is the difference between a Merrow Border and a Stitched Border?

Merrow border is the type of border where very tightly looped threads are over-locked to the edge of the patch resulting in producing the traditional look of an embroidered patch. The merrow border is always 1/8" in thickness and is best used for designs with regular shapes like squares, circles, rectangles, or ovals.

Stitched border is part of the embroidery, sitting on the edge of the patch, giving it a clean, trimmed edge look. The thickness of a stitched border is a bit more flexible in that the standard thickness is 1/16" (1.59mm), but can be adjusted up to 3/16" (4.76mm) if need be. Stitched border patches can apply to patches with either regular or irregular design shapes.

8. What are the different types and backings you offer?

The type of backing choice for your patch is determined by how the patches will be applied onto your garments. Here are the 6 basic types of backing:
1) Plain (No Backing) – Without applying any type of backing on your embroidered patch will make your patch more flexible. Plain backing is best suited for a sew-on application.
2) Pellon – A thin layer of non-woven material that functions as a stabilizer for the embroidered patch as well as covering up the back of the patch. It comes in two colors, white or black.
3) Plastic – Adding a layer of plastic backing will stiffen up the patch and hold the shape of the patch better. This type of backing is best suited for a sew-on application.
4) Heat Seal - This is known as the iron-on backing. This type of backing also adds a stiffened layer to the patch but could also be adhered to the garment through heat pressing machine or ironing. Please note that the strength of the heat sealed patch adhesion may vary depending on the types of fabric for the garment. Satin, nylon, or waterproof fabric, are the three types of fabrics we know may not be suitable for applying heat sealed patches.
5) Pressure Sensitive (PSB) – This is the Peel-N-Stick type of backing which is best used for just a couple of events. The adhesion may not be strong enough to go through a typical wash, so remember to remove the patch from the garment before washing.

*PSB-Temp – This is a type of pressure sensitive backing for “positioning” purposes only. This is best utilized for a “sew-on” patch when you don’t want the patch to shift when you’re trying to sew the patch onto the garment.

6) Velcro – You can choose to have hook-side only velcro or both hook & loop sides velcro.

9. How do I apply my heat seal patches onto my garment?

Please refer to our iron-on instructions page for more info

10. How many colors can I choose for my embroidered patch? And how do I choose the colors?

You can choose up to 7 colors for your patch design with no extra charge. There will be additional charges for more than 7 colors. You can refer to our online color charts to choose your colors.

11. What are the smallest possible lettering sizes?

a. For conventional embroidery, lettering needs to be at least 1/4" tall for 100% fully embroidered patch to ensure legibility and quality. This is the equivalent to a standard 14-point font size. For patches with the twill background showing through, lettering could be smaller at 3/16" tall.
b. For dye-sub embroidery, lettering could be as small as 1/16" tall, equivalent to a 5-point font size.

12. Will I be able to see a sample of my patch before they are manufactured?

Yes, we offer a scan of the actual stitch-out for you to approve before production with every firm order. Editing/Handling fees will apply if changes are requested afterwards.
